DIY chicken feederLike myself and many others, chickens love to eat all day, at any given time of the day. A good chicken owner knows having an efficient, and protected feeder is of the up-most importance for healthy chickens. Buying a feeder online or from a store will most likely cost you somewhere from $30 to $100, with varying levels of quality product. As the old saying goes “sometimes if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.”

Easy to fill and hard to spill, this DIY chicken feeder design meets all of the qualifications your chickens need, and can be assembled in no time at all. All you will need is some PVC pipe, PVC glue, and about 10 minutes of your time. Let’s take our chickens health into our own hands and build something that will last.

What you will need

-Three inch diameter pipe: 20 inches long. Or more. Or less.
-Three inch diameter pipe: 6 inches long
-Three inch diameter pipe: 3 inches long
-45-degree “Y” connector
-Two three-inch PVC caps
-Hacksaw
-PVC cement

Assembly

This design is so simple, a single image can provide the assembly steps for you.

Each piece simply slides into the next, not exactly and IKEA furniture puzzle.

* Only glue together the sides of PVC touching the 45 degree angle Y connector, as well as the bottom cap. The top cap stays loose to add more feed to the pipe and keep unwanted critters out.

 * For extra protection against unwanted hungry critters, buy an extra cap and place it over the 3 inch opening the chickens feed from.

Easier than you thought right? DIY chicken feeder assembled in less than 10 minutes for less cash than a store bought model. Your happy chickens, wallet, and busy schedule, will be thanking you shortly after putting this together.

Awesome creation. This is my first year having chickens and I have a good messy layer of chickfood around the feeder and pen due to them scattering it from the feeder I have now. Thanks much.
